We were a little concerned about a head injury since she had some carpet burn on her forehead and since she was still pretty ouchy after more than a half hour so I took her in to Urgent Care. Well, they gave her a clear neurological screen and when I mentioned that her arm seemed to be bothering her, the doctor moved it around a bit and said it didn't seem to be bad enough to warrant any X-rays. This was right after Kate used the terminology "sick arm" of her own initiative while we were waiting for the doctor. So we went home.
Kate continued to favor her left arm quite a bit Friday night and then was up really early on Saturday morning. Based on how the morning went, we're pretty sure she didn't sleep well that night. After continuing to favor her arm, she then slipped from a sitting position while playing and screamed for about 15 minutes. It was the kind of scream that breaks a mommy's heart :( She also didn't want to do much after she stopped screaming.
So we headed back into Urgent Care, Kate fell asleep on the way there (9:15!) and slept in my arms until we finally got into the examination room about 10. The doctor we saw on Saturday was more empathetic and even though Kate didn't cry when she touched her arm, the doctor saw that Kate was favoring it a lot so she ordered X-rays. And sure enough, Kate has a small fracture at the end of her radius right by her elbow. She was right all along when she told us her elbow hurt ... poor kid :( Because of the nature and location of the fracture, they didn't do a cast, but gave us a sling for Kate to wear for a few days and set us up with a follow-up appointment in a week.
Whew! We all felt much better when we knew what was wrong and had some kind of a plan for it. Kate did well with the sling the first couple of days, but has been wearing it less and less the past few days. She's still very protective of her arm, but is gradually becoming more and more confident with her activities. One of the hardest things for her is that she hasn't been able to run, jump, climb, etc. since it either hurt too much or she was afraid of falling. This led to her not being very tired at nap time and having her sleep all thrown off since Saturday. Hopefully we're on the mend with all of these disruptions.
Life besides that has been fine. Busy, but fine. My parents were here from Thursday through Saturday morning so my dad could help Matt do some home improvement projects. My mom and I took the girls to the children's museum on Friday morning and putzed around in the afternoon, until the stairs incident.
The landscapers finished up on Wednesday evening last week and one of these days I'll finally remember to take some "after" pictures to show things off. I think we can say that things are "done", although they'll never really be done :) We don't have any pictures or decorating things up yet in our dining room, nor to we have good stools at the counter or window coverings. There's time yet, right?
Today I got to go with Anna's preschool to a pumpkin patch farm. Too bad it was one of the coldest and windiest days we've had yet. Plus, it rained a bit while we were there :( Oh, well. The kids seemed to have a pretty good time and it was nice for me to have the opportunity to go along (Matt worked from home while Kate took a nap). Here's a few pictures of the day.

Lastly, here's a picture of what Anna got to do while Kate and I were at the doctor's. Matt said he found her like this with some tools fixing one of the chairs :)
