Almost there ...

Christmas is fast approaching and life feels very "full" these days. Full of good things (mostly), but still just full. We're enjoying all of the moments and little celebrations here and there, but we're also looking forward to being able to slow down a bit soon. Matt has all of next week off and we have NO plans after Wednesday, so things should settle down a bit then.

Last week was Anna's last week for preschool until January. I wasn't sure how she would adjust to NOT having school, but it seems to be okay so far. In fact, she's been pretty tired and today is taking her fourth nap in the last five days. (!) Granted, she's gotten another round of a cold (so did Kate, so did I, so did Matt), but still. Kate has also been taking more naps the past several days.

Part of that was because of some of our morning activities. Friday morning we headed out to BouncyTown and met up with some friends. It's always a great way to burn off some energy, even if it is a bit of a drive for us. We've learned to bring along lots of food because the girls usually need an extra meal while we're there :)

Anna, Kate, and Audrey love to slide down the big slide all together.

Anna and Kate were very kind and helpful to Joy, who came along to BouncyTown for the first time.

Poor Anna was exhausted and was falling asleep on the way home. I was able to get her settled into bed without waking her up too much; the first time that transfer has happened in about two years!

Saturday morning we woke up to about an inch of snow, our first of the year! It melted by Sunday, but at least we had a little bit to play in. Saturday was also the final practice for our church's Christmas program, and then the gingerbread decorating event. This was our first year staying for lunch and the gingerbread time, but we did pretty well. Both girls LOVED decorating our gingerbread house and were very proud of it afterwards.

Sunday morning was the Christmas program. At our church, we usually have a shortened worship service the morning of the program, and then the kids join the rest of us to sing carols while Heidi and Eric (our lovely puppets) help our pastor tell the Christmas story. Kate was dressed up as a lamb this year while Anna chose to be a star. If I get copies of pictures of these two, I'll be sure to post them, but since Matt and I are behind the puppet stage for the program, we don't get to see our little girls sing their hearts out.

Yesterday was a day without any specific plans. So we cleaned the house, did laundry, made gingerbread cookies, made some more Christmas presents, and then even went to a Dave Landau show, before things started falling apart around 3. The Dave show was great. We were the only ones to show up for his weekly event, but he did an awesome job of making it memorable.

Part of the difficulty yesterday was that Kate has been having a hard time telling the difference between real and pretend recently. On Saturday during the rehearsal, she wanted to comfort baby Jesus (who was a doll, but a VERY lifelike doll) just like the lamb does in our of our books. I don't think she knew that it wasn't really Jesus. Then she's had a hard time with some books lately, telling us she's afraid of the scary guy in them. We're trying to work with Anna on the extend of her pretend play to make sure Kate knows what's real and what's not. Anyway, Kate was scared to go anywhere without me because she was afraid the Ice Man was there.

This morning was much better. We had some friends over for a modified Christmas Party. Actually, the only Christmas part was that the older girls all got to make some chocolate covered pretzel rods. Yum! Besides that, 8 kids ages five and under plus their moms all fit pretty well in our house now that we have a bigger kitchen and dining room :) Anika, Trevor, and their grandpa even got to stick around for lunch.

The next couple of days are going to be more "normal" days for us. And then the excitement of Christmas really picks up again! (Here's a nice shot of a pile on top of Daddy moment.)
