A full week after Anna started feeling ill, she still has a lingering cough. But, her energy level is back to normal. Hooray!
Unfortunately, Kate came down with the same crud starting on Monday. I try to remember now that when Kate's energy level plummets and she voluntarily goes to bed early, she's getting sick. Bummer. Kate had a fever on Tuesday morning and couldn't go to her summer camp. The fever sapped her energy enough to the point of Kate taking a nap in the afternoon. Gasp!
And then she went to bed early again. Gasp!
Just before Ethan went to bed on Tuesday night, he started hacking pretty terribly. He was up a lot that night, and then very early on Wednesday morning. We never detected a real fever with him, just low, low energy and a nasty, nasty cough.
Wednesday Kate woke up fever free and she was starting to play more normally so we sent her to camp. That's about when her cough started, though.
Wednesday Ethan fell asleep on the way home from dropping Kate off at camp ... at 9:30 a.m. I had to wake the poor boy up at 11 to go pick Anna up. He would have liked to stay sleeping.
Instead of lunch on Thursday, Ethan chose to take another nap.
Most evenings this week have included a "So who gets what medicine?" conversation between the parents. Cough medicine? Tylenol? Vicks?
But now we are over the worst of it. On Friday all three kids actually had a decent amount of energy, a relatively normal appetite, and only coughed sporadically, instead of all ... the ... time.
In other news, Anna is getting a real walker sometime this summer. She tried out a reverse walker (instead of the kind you push in front of yourself) at therapy this past spring and the paperwork finally went through for her to get her own. Until the new one arrives, we are borrowing one just like it so Anna can continue to practice using it before her "CI Summer Camp" (the intensive therapy session she is participating in during July).
We used the walker awhile back when we went to see Mary Poppins and on Friday we took it with us to the library. Anna likes to use it on the race tracks Matt draws with chalk on the driveway.
In related news, one morning this week before Ethan was sick, we took a trip out to Columbus, WI, to donate a van-load of Anna's previous therapy equipment. Stanley the Stander, Stephanie the specially ordered Stander, Scootie the carseat-made-into-corner-chair-that-moves, and Scott Walker (the first walker) are no longer part of our home. The best part about donating these items to Kindred Kids is that the owner said there were already families lined up to borrow them. Hooray!
Finally, here are a few random pictures of some of the kids' antics during the last couple of weeks.
Kate's first summer camp was "Livin' Like Laura Ingalls". One afternoon she orchestrated an amazing activity in the basement in which all three kids were members of the Ingalls family, their wagon was supplied with all sorts of provisions, and they had a horse pulling the wagon.
Boxes are fun, right?
One of our go-to sick week toys happens to be legos. Ethan likes the vehicles which stay put together, but this time he also made his own vehicle. He would love to tell you all about it, but I can't remember many of the details right now. Here's a picture of it :)
Anna made a house and then added wheels and apparently a floor later.
And then there's Kate. She made a whole town. Houses, police station, hospital, truck driver's home, jail, playground, etc. Before we put everything away, she set up this final scene in which there was a flood in the town and everyone either had a boat, was able to climb high enough, or was being rescued. This child has been gifted with an incredible imagination.
Tonight I knew the girls were feeling better because they wanted to stay outside playing instead of coming in to get ready for bed. Let's have more summer nights like this now, please :)
