This kid has come so far in the last two years. Actually, this kid has come so far since she entered toddlerhood, just in a different way I suppose.
Granted, she still has a long way to go, but I'd rather look at the progress she has made than at the journey still ahead.
Our Anna is an incredibly kind, empathetic person who can be an extremely hard worker. She loves her siblings and parents, enjoys corny jokes, and still loves math and logical thinking. What a road she has traveled.
Unfortunately, she was still not 100% on Monday, her birthday. The cold that started on Friday really wiped her out over the weekend and developed into a nasty cough that is still lingering. But ... if you ask Anna, she would say she had a good birthday.
The day began with Anna finding some of her 9s hidden around the house. She wasn't quite as into the searching this year, probably because we were all a bit tired and sick, and because of that we are still discovering 9s almost a week later :)
Anna was able to open cards, plus her gifts from Kate and her grandparents before she left for summer school. (Ethan was still sleeping so she wasn't allowed to open his yet.)
Her aide for her first summer school class made a special treat for the kids that morning. Have I mentioned before that awesome people work in our school district?
When Ethan and I picked Anna up, he had her gift waiting for her in the van. He was definitely excited to give her the special present he picked out.
The afternoon was low-key. Kate was starting to feel sick and Anna wasn't quite over her illness yet. I had a bunch of food prep to do for dinner, but was able to squeeze in a game or two with Anna.
One of the highlights of our 9-year-old's birthday was dinner. She choose lasagna, garlic bread, and apple pie for her meal of choice. I threw in some green beans since I knew the boy wouldn't be a fan of lasagna and I wouldn't let him just have garlic bread and pie :)
Guess what! She ate some of everything! (It's hard to quantify the amounts, but we aren't interested in measuring things out at this point.) And the whole time she kept telling us how good it tasted. Way to go, Anna! We have been slowly cutting back on some of her formula over the last month or so to offset the food she is eating. Let's hope this trend continues :)
All in all, it was a relatively low-key birthday celebration. But that's okay. Anna is still a special kid who is very much loved.

Please give thanks that Anna has made it to her 9th birthday.
Please thank God that Anna continues to make progress with all of her skills on a daily basis.
Please give thanks for Anna's faith, kindness, joy, patience, and determination.
Please thank God for the village (or perhaps the city?) that is helping to raise Anna and bring her to her highest potential.
Please ask God to continue to bless Anna each day of her life.
Please pray that God protects Anna's mind, body, and spirit.
Please pray that Anna continues to impact those around her in a positive way.
Please ask God to grant Matt and I wisdom as we continue to be Anna's parents, through good times and bad.
