Since our last post, Kate got over her cold, but then Anna caught it. Anna's still fighting it and Matt seems to have something new and unrelated ... :( But we're still plugging along with our little life and enjoying the moments that we've been given.
Our November days have either been tremendously gray and rainy, or beautifully sunny; we don't have any in between ones. So we really, really, really try and make the most of the sunny ones because there's no hope of enjoying the other ones.
Along these lines, last Wednesday was sunny AND warmish, AND Anna had preschool in the morning since it was the day before Thanksgiving. So, we threw out any hopes for naps and we girls took off for the zoo in the afternoon. What fun! We probably spent the longest amount of time we'd ever spent at our little zoo that day.
Our Thanksgiving holiday was filled with our church family. We went to the worship service in the morning on Thanksgiving Day, then headed home for food preparation and the Packer game. Some of our first friends here in Madison came over with their kids in the afternoon for fun and food. We, again, chose to have a yummy stuffed pork roast instead of turkey, but the rest of the food was definitely along the "traditional" lines.
Friday morning we met up with more friends from church for some outdoor, burning off energy time at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center. Again, lots of fun. I was trying to explain the holiday to my brother the other night and came to the realization that it was almost like a family reunion for our church family/friends. It's been harder to keep up with some of these close friends this fall because kids are entering school schedules, so this was the most time we'd spent with many of them since the summer.
Saturday we traveled to Milwaukee to spend the day with Miriam, Chris, Mark, Nate, and baby Claire. It was, again, low-key and relaxing, definitely a good chance to enjoy family.
The girls are fully into the "holiday" spirit now. As soon as Thanksgiving was over, they were asking about Advent and when we get to light our candles. This is all probably on Anna's mind also because she got to make an Advent wreath at preschool last week. We're slowly getting out our Christmas decorations and sorting out life for the next month or so. Anna helped this morning by making some of her own "decorations" to share with the family.
About a week or so ago we decided to take the potty-training plunge with Kate again. After a bit of struggling at the beginning, she's doing fairly well as long as we tell her she needs to go. She doesn't seem to be willing or able to tell us when she needs to go; maybe she just doesn't want to stop playing. It's certainly been a process with her. I almost feel like I'm potty-training a third child since things are going very differently with her than they were last spring. Oh, well.
The girls are saying and doing all sort of funny things these days, but I can't seem to remember any of them right now. I'll have to keep a notebook handy this week so that I can jot down the good ones when I hear them :)
