We got a fair bit of snow on Friday (hopefully the last of it?) and decided to do a sledding trip on Saturday morning. We packed up the tubes, toboggans, my skis (so I could get in some skiing while Matt and the girls started), warm clothes, and lots of snacks. It was a beautiful morning and we had a great time.
The girls were full of smiles, and so were we.
In fact, this may have been one of the first times that Kate has really had a good time for most of the outdoor winter play. Either she finally got used to it, or she finally resigned herself to the fact that we, as a family, WILL play outside in the winter, so she'd better make the most of it :)Both Friday and Saturday night we tried a recipe for fresh snow ice cream. It was pretty tasty, especially for Kate who loves eating snow no matter what sweetener or flavorings are added!
In the afternoon on Saturday Matt and Anna (and whoever else was willing to help) worked on Anna's new-to-her bike. Actually, it's one Matt picked up for free a few years back and that we decided to clean up and refurbish for our big kid, instead of shelling out the money it would cost to get her a new one. In the end, this was a lot more fun since Anna got to help with the cleaning and she got to pick out some special "decorations" for her bike. Once we have a nice day, I'll get a picture of her on her new bike.
Sunday we did a few errands after church so Anna could pick out the parts she needed for her bike and then we finished up all of the decorations. One of the best parts of the bike story is that we realized on Saturday that we were going to need a few replacement parts. I told Anna that I was going to call around to the bike shops and ask them if they had the parts in stock. She piped up with "Can I do the talking?" So, sure enough, after a bit of coaching on what she should ask, she talked to the guys at two different stores to see if they had seats, pedals, and accessories for a 16" girl's bike :)
All in all, a great weekend!
