Thursday Anna started coming down with a cold. We are learning that if something bad can happen in our family, it probably will. Murphy's Law wins.
Thursday night was really rough for Anna and she woke up in a bad place on Friday morning. We started stress dosing her and decided to plan for the trip, but also see how Anna was doing over the course of the morning.
We had everything packed up by lunch time and were planning on letting Anna take a nap before our "ride" (a limo!) was due to arrive at 3 p.m. But then Anna couldn't fall asleep, kept crying, and threw up (from all of the coughing and mucus) for the fourth time in 12 hours. Bummer.
I called the wish coordinator to check our options. We decided to cancel our special ride and send Matt up with Kate and Ethan and all of our stuff on Friday night (since everyone else was already there), which would give Anna until Saturday morning to rest up before we made a decision about whether or not to cancel the wish and reschedule everything.
We were all disappointed. We called everyone who would be affected by this decision ... Matt's family, my family, those who were supposed to pick my brother up from the airport, etc. But, in the last year and a half we have learned how to adjust when necessary and make the best of what is going on. Friday was no different.
After dealing with lots of traffic on the way to the Dells, Matt met up with my parents and his family at the Kalahari. On entering our special suite, Matt and the kids discovered a few of the perks sponsored by the Kalahari.
By the time Matt thought to take a picture of the whole set-up, the balloons had already lost their helium ... but you get the idea.
The girls received tiaras and wands, while all of the kids were gifted stuffed animals, t-shirts, and a handful of other souvenirs.
We also discovered a basket of yummy candy ... as if we haven't had enough celebrations with desserts in the last month!
After giving the younger kids some food, Matt hauled them down to the waterpark to play that evening. Kate, Ethan, and the cousins had a good introduction to the fun that would, hopefully, continue the next day.
Kate was already pretty tired that night and Matt snapped a nice shot of her before she woke up in the morning :) We have a hard time keeping Kate safe in hotel beds.
Meanwhile, Anna wasn't actually too disappointed at home. She ended up having a nice nap and was glad to be able to spend some time at home just with Mom. We played some games and then I brought her outside to sit in the sun while I planted my sweet potatoes (which happened to arrive in the mail that day) along with our corn.
Some friends picked my brother up at the airport and brought him out to the house instead of having him drive our van up to the Dells. He got to say hi to Anna and hang out with her a bit before she crashed for the night. Then Adam and I had a chance to catch up with one another before I also crashed :)
We all hoped for the best ... a good night's rest for Anna and a kid who was feeling somewhat better the next day.
