Anna has had a pretty great year at school. Her teacher and her class have been wonderfully supportive. When a situation doesn't exactly lend itself towards being inclusive to Anna's needs, someone steps in to make it a good experience for Anna anyway. For example, Anna's class had an open swim last Monday when Anna was still not allowed to get her eyes drenched after her surgery. So, Anna became the class photographer and took around 100 photos on her ipad (we narrowed the list of shared pictures down to about a dozen good ones). Anna felt good about her role and the class had something to show for her efforts.
Unfortunately, Anna woke up with a stomach bug last Thursday, which just happened to be her school's end-of-the-year field day. I'm sure everyone would have made it work for her, but she spent the morning curled up in bed resting. She was fine by the afternoon and, thankfully, no one else caught this bug.
The highlight of Anna's classroom's end of the year is their class play. We learned last fall that Anna's teacher always ends the school year with a play written and performed by the students in his class. Here's a link to this year's trailer. Matt, Ethan, and I are looking forward to watching one of the performances this week.
Kate has also had a pretty good school year. When I asked her recently what she would miss most about school, she said she would miss seeing her 1st grade teacher every day after school and saying hi to her kindergarten teacher. And friends :) Sweet girl.
Ethan has also had a good last year at home; he will definitely be ready for preK in the fall. I like to think that we made the most of the last several months, but it always feels like there is "more" we should have done. Oh, well.
Last Wednesday was Ethan's show week at The Little Gym. Although he doesn't know it yet, this is his last year for his gymnastics class. It was a great fit for our family for the last few years, but it's not worth it to try and fit the class in next year with a preK schedule/adjustment as well.

Overall, Ethan learned a lot, made some friends, and had a good time. We are thankful for the opportunity to have our Little Gym experience here in McFarland.
The girls didn't have school this past Friday so we had a trial run for our summer days. We will have a few tweeks to the routine, but I think we will manage just fine. At one point over the weekend, Kate said something along the lines of "I just want to be able to run free in the yard barefoot!" She has held it together very well this school year, but this dear child is ready for some freedom.
After what seemed like weeks and weeks of cold, rainy weather, things finally cleared up here for Memorial Day weekend. Thank goodness! We spent as much time outdoors as we possible could and simply enjoyed having the windows open to get fresh air into the house.
In addition to a Friday night Family Game Night, we also managed to spent some fun time as a family the rest of the weekend, too.
Saturday afternoon we ventured in to BratFest for brats, corn on the cob, music, dancing, and playtime.
Although Kate LOVED the Ballet Folklorico performance, Ethan wasn't as impressed. This boy has the craziest expressions :)
Monday we went to McFarland's Memorial Day parade. This one is not nearly as long and involved as the Monona one we have attended in year's past, but we tend to know more people in this one. The kids got just the right amount of candy :)
Other weekend activities for the kids included sandbox time, swinging, playing on the tower, riding bikes around the neighborhood, and just goofing off in general.
Mom and Dad spent a fair portion of the time at home catching up on all of the outdoor/gardening tasks that we haven't been able to do yet this spring due to the poor weather. The garden isn't nearly as far along as it has been some years at this time, but I'm hoping that it will catch up as soon as the weather stays warm.
To close this update, here are a few fun shots from Kate and Ethan's crazy creative play tonight. I think they had to jump over the red part of the mat because it was hot lava. If they landed on it by accident, they became lava monsters. It was quite hilarious to watch.

We had to do Kate's pictures multiple times because, as you can see, she jumped so high that I cut her head out of the shot. Silly athletic child.
Needless to say, it was a wonderful weekend. Here's hoping for many more days this summer like the last few have been!
