During the last year, she grew several inches, mastered riding a bike, ventured into the world of grade school best friend relationships, continued to develop a love of books, and made a bit of progress while taking piano lessons. She loves nature, pets, books, imaginative play, and her family.
Kate is a kind, sensitive, active kid who can also be quite the goof. We consider it a privilege to have watched her grow into the kid she is today and are excited to see what the next 8 years bring.
As a family, we decided that in lieu of a big birthday celebration this year, Kate would be able to travel with me to Denver. The trip is now immortalized in a photo book I make for Kate.
As Kate's birthday drew closer, however, she realized exactly what it meant that her birthday had already been "celebrated" and expressed her desire to do something in a small way closer to her actual birthday. So Saturday morning, Kate, her second grade best bud, and I all went to see Beauty and the Beast before having lunch (and ice cream) at Culver's.
The movie was great (even though I had a super scared Kate curled up on my lap for the last ten minutes), the food was delicious, and the celebration was just enough to make Kate feel special.
Tuesday morning included hidden 8s, cards, and gifts from the siblings.
And, of course, having birthday muffins and singing happy birthday.
Ethan and I managed to go to school and have lunch with Kate, leaving Anna at home for an hour or so. Again, Kate really enjoyed that time and LOVED being able to show Ethan around on the playground.
Dinner included pigs in a blanket, corn chowder, and another store-bought dessert pie. I have a feeling that these are going to be the desserts of choice this year. One year everyone wanted pumpkin cake; now they want these frozen pies. Silly family :)

Please give thanks that Kate is a happy, healthy 8 year old.
Please thank God for all of Kate's gifts: her smile, her laughter, her sense of humor, her intelligence and insight, her quiet leadership, her physical abilities, her empathy, and her faith, among other things.

Please pray that God continues to watch over Kate and lead her as she grows and matures.
Please pray that Kate is able to use her gifts to influence those around her in a positive way.
Please ask God to give us wisdom and insight as Kate's parents so we can help her reach her potential.
